About Therapy

You’re in a sea of the unknown.

You’re out of answers. It’s scary.

Things just aren’t going the way you hoped they would. Which doesn’t make sense because it’s not for lack of trying.

You’ve done everything you know how to do, yet there is more struggle than joy.

Tina*, unmarried at 35, has a great job with a horrible boss.

She can’t figure out how she keeps ending up in dead-end relationships and difficult jobs. She’s a good person, educated, comes from a good family. She wonders, “What am I doing wrong? What more could I possibly do?” She feels defeated and hopeless. Her friends are supportive, but they don’t know how to help. They convince her to try therapy.

Kevin* and Nancy* have been married for decades. Their children are grown and out of the house, successful. They looked forward to the joy and freedom of retirement, yet there are too many days where they barely speak to one another, living separate lives. They are looking for help in reconnecting.

April* is a teenager who has a close relationship with her family. She has some good friends. On the outside, it looks like she’s got things together, but on the inside…there is a constant worry. There is always something to worry about, and it becomes difficult to concentrate at school. It’s so overwhelming, some days she can’t get out of bed.

It’s difficult to ask for help. You’re here though, wondering if getting help will help.

You are the captain…

… and I am your navigator.

You determine where we will go, and I help you get there.

This is a team effort. You’re in charge – you decide what we work on and how fast or slow we go. This is your time, in a safe place. No judgment, no shame. I will help you work through it and come out on the other side a better person.

Your values (not mine) are our compass. One question I will ask you at your first visit is, “How will you know therapy is over?” That’s what we’re after – that answer sets our course. If you’re not sure you can answer that question, that’s okay! I can help with that, too.

Before we chart the course, we’ll look at where you are…

… take a glimpse at where you’ve been, and then we’ll talk about what you are hoping for.

What has worked for you in the past? I will support you in those things – regardless of what anyone else thinks! It is not my place to judge where you are or how you got there. It’s not my place to tell you where you should go. When we talk, I keep a lookout for the obstacles and give you the missing tools to get around them.

Once upon a time, you were doing fine. What stopped working? We want to take the time to identify those things. We often attempt the strategies because they once worked. We know they’re not working anymore, but we don’t know what to do differently. I will provide you with new tools and skills for your unique voyage.

My Philosophy

I believe everyone needs a hand at some point, even Captains.

You’re doing the BEST you can; it used to be good enough, but now it’s not working. Maybe you know why, but you can’t seem to fix it. That’s the scary part. That’s why it’s good to have a navigator – someone alongside you to support your journey.

You are the expert on you, that’s why you’re the Captain. You have gotten this far, and you have what it takes to get to where you want to go! I am the expert in how to get there.

I have the additional tools needed to support you with my experience and my education that will complement your strengths. My clients find that when they leave therapy with me, their growth and newfound strength help them in many journeys to come.

You don’t have to do this alone.

I’m here to guide and support you.

About Me

I’ve been passionate about helping and teaching others since 1997. My background includes schoolteacher, social worker, and therapist.

During a difficult time in adolescence, I remember feeling misunderstood and alone amongst my peers. I wasn’t sure where to turn and “figured it out” myself. It is my hope that others will know that they are not alone, and there is someone who understands, someone to walk alongside them in their journey.

I know what’s possible with the right support and the right tools. I strive to equip others for a more abundant and more joyful life experience. If I can do it, so can you!

My goal is to provide my clients with help for today, but also to equip them for a better tomorrow.

When I’m not doing therapy…

My husband and I have been together since 1999. He graduated from my rival college – Florida State – so we have an interesting household during football season! Our teenage son joins in the trash talking at every opportunity, while our daughter thinks we’re all ridiculous and stays out of it altogether.

I always say I have more hobbies than I have time, but I default to being outside. I am frequently on the beach reading or playing in the water, paddle boarding, bike riding, or even doing yardwork – everything is more fun outside. One day I’ll “find” time to learn the guitar, and I have six books stacked next to my bed that I’ll never get to, but I pretend that I will!

We have two high school children and a silly Lab that keep us busy. Staying married and parenting teenagers…both are most certainly challenging and somehow rewarding at the same time. Balancing family relationships, friendships, work, and making time for fun…In all situations, I rely heavily on my relationship with Jesus for strength and guidance.
